Andrey Baranov was a unique musician, having command of over 10 musical instruments, including such exotic ones as kobza,ukulele,gusli and others, to say nothing of his mastery guitar skills.
After graduating from Moscow Civil Aviation Institute, Andrey joined the famous Folklore Music Ensemble of Vladimir Nazarov.Together with this band Andrey travelled to over 40 countries and made over 650 records in various guitar styles: country, blues, bossa nova, blue grass, latino...
By the ’80-s, his name and his guitar were well known over the world. But his life was legendary as well. Here are just a few facts from his biography:
1983. Revolutionary Angola. Andrey gets under artillery bombardment on board of “Novorossijsk” aircraft carrier.
1985. Brazil. An over suspicious policeman mistakes Andrey for a drug dealer, and escorts him to local prison.
1987. Andrey plays at the wedding of Hussein the First, King of Jordan’s daughter.
1989, Berlin. Andrey participates both in the act of Berlin wall destruction and Pink Floyd’s “Wall” project.
Calcutta. Andrey Baranov works among a few Russians members of Mother Theresa’s Salvation Army…
Andrey makes up his own team Swoja igra” together with Tamara Sidorova, a virtuoso violin player, Alexander Shishov, multi-instrumentalists and other musicians. The band joins the famous “Peace Caravan” project, including musicians, actors and clowns, and travels throughout Europe.
In 1995 Andrey together with “GrAssMeister” group records his guitar music album “Captain Morgan”, where he presents various musical genres. The audience welcomes it with great enthusiasm. Musical compositions carry the listeners away in the realm of freedom and romanticism.
Andrey works a lot; he’s engaged in many projects, including festivals, writing music for theatrical performances, concert tours…
He’s full of ideas - to record another album, to arrange a musical fest in Volzhsk, his native town…
On August, 2, 2003, Andrey Baranov died in a car accident not far from Volzhsk. He was 42 years old.
